Gaylord Silvercraft provided an innova-
tive approach to patient care and reha-
bilitation for nearly 40 years. While the
workshop is no longer in existence, the
legacy of caring for the patient in all fac-
ets of his or her rehabilitation lives on
at Gaylord. This novel approach to of-
fering patients the opportunity for vo-
cational training as well as occupation-
al therapy must certainly have helped
patients and their families during in-
credibly trying times. It’s amazing how
one tomato server, in a collection in a
Silver Museum, tells a story of a com-
     munity with outstanding resources and
foresight, past and present, and the re-
silience of the human spirit. That’s the
best part about learning about “old”
artifacts and items, they all have a sto-
     ry to tell.
