Spreading “Holiday Magic” in Wallingford
Founded in 1968, Holiday for Giving is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit ded-
icated to bringing “Holiday Magic” to Wallingford families facing hardships.
From humble beginnings serving just 15 families, it has grown into a vital com-
munity tradition that provides food, toys, and smiles to hundreds each year
(holidayforgiving.org).
Mission & Impact
At the heart of Holiday for Giving is a heartfelt mission: to put food on tables,
smiles on children’s faces, and joy in the hearts of families who need it most.
Operating entirely on community donations and volunteer support, the organi-
zation channels generosity directly to neighbors. Each December, the program
hosts its annual drop-off and giveaway at the Wallingford Parks & Recreation
Department, where volunteers gather and distribute toys, food, and gift cards.
Last year alone, the event served hundreds of local families.
Fundraising Events
Holiday for Giving is about more than one season—it’s fueled by community
events year-round. This year, several exciting fundraisers are lined up:
• The Battle of the Bars – Local bars and restaurants come together in a
spirited competition, creating signature drinks and hosting specials, with
proceeds benefiting Holiday for Giving and other local organizations.
• Shakers & Bakers Cookie Swap – A sweet tradition where participants
bake, swap, and share their favorite cookies while raising funds for families
in need.
• Mix Tape Bingo – A lively night of music, games, and prizes, where partici-
pants play bingo to classic hits. It’s an entertaining evening that combines
nostalgia, community fun, and charitable giving.
These events not only raise vital funds but also keep the spirit of giving alive
throughout the year.
