As I sit at my desk with a view over the 5th fairway of Wallingford Country Club, today I am
viewing everything totally covered in frozen white snow with the bright sun shining through
it all. Our town has so many beautiful scenes of natural environments. The cover on this issue
is another example of that as the photo was taken today from the Muddy River Bridge in
Tyler Mill Preserve. That process is described below in “On The Cover” by Mary Bush, a local
professional photographer.

Then, beyond all the beauty of our natural environments, I find it so delightful to visit long-
standing restaurants, businesses, retailers, and professional services in our town. We have had
some very special art shows over the past few years, most recently in the white building at the
bottom of Center Street where it meets North Colony Street. These art shows are put together
by Wallingford Arts and Culture Alliance, an organization that began just before the pandemic
and has had to work hard to overcome the challenges the pandemic brought to us all. WACA
has been growing in membership and in financial support by local people, companies, and
organizations. Their membership has grown dramatically over the last year.
As I often say, I love this town! I am so grateful to all those who contribute to my ability to
create and deliver this magazine six times a year. Our advertisers, our writers, our office help,
and the people who read our magazine and provide me with so much positiveness about it.

ON THE COVER

Once again, we have chosen another beautiful image of one of Wallingford’s many precious outdoor environments. As in the past,
we have again chosen this one from Mary Bush, the professional photographer of her company, known as Portrait Design by Mary
Bush. Mary has advertised with us for many years and also helps Paradise Hills Vineyards with photos she takes for their ads. She took
this photo recently after the snowstorm on January 19th and 20th viewing from the bridge over the Muddy River, looking south over
the MacKenzie Reservoir in east Wallingford as one approaches the turn to take you to Paradise Hills Vineyards. Beyond the south
end of the reservoir is the entrance to Tyler Mill Preserve along some streams that have been tended to by many of the wonderful
folks who take care of our woodlands, watercourses, wildlife, and hiking trails. It is so nice that Mary can capture many of the special
natural images of our town in that area. 16 26 42 48
